THE FALL EDIT

Notes for the season ahead, from summer showing into fall.

October 6, 2026

Somewhere in early October, you walk into the barn one morning and the air feels different. It's not a big change, because this is Texas, but you notice it. The light comes in lower, the horses are a little brighter in the cross-ties, and for the first time in months you reach for a layer before the sunscreen.

That's when the fall circuit starts. Summer showing meant early starts, quick changes and managing the heat. Fall asks for something different: less getting through the day, more intention. At Casa Equestre, we see it as the season where preparation shows.

Summer is hard on gear. Months of sweat, heat and back-to-back weeks leave their mark, often without you noticing. Before the first fall show, check your boots, retire the gloves worn thin at the rein fingers, and make sure your show coat still fits the way you ride now. If you ride in an air vest and it has deployed, replace the cartridge before you show again.

The mindset shifts too. Summer showing is about endurance; Fall asks for focus. Choose one or two goals to carry forward, give a fresher horse more time to warm up, and plan your shows toward the end of the year.

A few of our notes:

  • Long sleeves are back before 8am.
  • A vest earns its place in every show bag.
  • Cooler mornings mean fresher horses. Give the warm-up time.
  • One or two goals for fall, not ten.
  • Pack the night before. A calm start shows in the ring.
