Packing for the Ring

September 09, 2026,

There is a version of packing that happens the night before a show, laid out neatly, photographed for the socials, everything folded just so. And then there is the real version, the one that happens in stages over weeks, as certain pieces prove themselves and quietly claim a permanent spot in the bag.

The Veltri Bedford Boot Bag was the first to earn that spot. It started as the thing that held the boots. Somewhere along the way it became the thing that held everything, gloves, a spare stock tie, the emergency granola bar nobody admits to packing. By now it barely gets unpacked between shows.

That first quiet layout is the only orderly part of the whole process, and somehow it holds the rest together.

The Parlanti boots took longer to prove themselves, the way good boots always do. A few rides in, and the break in period stopped feeling like a negotiation. Now they are the pair reached for without thinking, which is the only real test that matters.

The Horse Pilot AirVest joined the rotation after one early morning schooling session where footing turned out to be worse than expected. It has not left the bag since.

And the Yagya show coat solved a smaller, quieter problem, that stretch between trailer and warm up ring when the morning air has not decided what kind of day it wants to be.

None of it was planned as a set. It just became one, the way the right gear always does, one show at a time.
